Palace: Gov’t on top of Luzon quake response

By Prince Golez

Malacañang has assured the public that concerned agencies are committed to responding to the needs of those affected by the magnitude 6.1 earthquake felt in several parts of Luzon on Monday afternoon.

“First responders from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, Office of Civil Defense, Philippine National Police, and affected Local Government Units, as well as other related agencies, are cooperating and coordinating on the ground to look after the needs of our citizens,” Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said in a statement.

Panelo noted that the transportation and energy sectors are on full alert status to respectively address issues on disruption of transportation services and power supply interruptions.

He likewise urged everyone to be calm and vigilant and to refrain from spreading threatening messages that may only cause undue panic and stress to others.

“We call upon our citizen’s innate Bayanihan spirit and request their cooperation, patience and understanding in this time of need,” added the Palace official.
