Sara Duterte says she won’t explain wealth to PCIJ unless case is filed

By JOHN CARLO M. CAHINHINAN

COTABATO CITY – Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte has defended the supposed non-registration of her law firm before the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

In an interview in Cotabato City, Mayor Duterte stressed that there’s no need for her law firm to be registered before SEC since its not a corporation.

“Yes (no need to register before SEC) because hindi siya corporation” said Mayor Duterte.

The Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism (PCIJ) earlier reported various irregularities in the Statement of Assets, Liabilities, and Net worth (SALN) of the Presidential daughter including the non-registration of her family-owned law office ‘Carpio & Duterte Lawyers.’

Mayor Duterte stressed she has no obligation to explain to PCIJ the supposed increase in her family wealth in span of a decade.

“Wala kasi akong obligation na mag-explain sa PCIJ about sa income naming mag-asawa, so siguro if there is forum na dapat ako mag explain is kung may case na-file,” Mayor Duterte insisted.

The Davao City mayor insisted that she will only respond to PCIJ if a case will be filed against her using the said investigative report.

“Kung may nakita ang PCIJ dun sa investigative report nila na worthy of a case to be filed sa correct venue, then doon ko masasagot,” she said.
