Arwind fined for taunting, avoids bigger penalty by aborting 'Spidey' dunk



ARWIND Santos was hit with a fine for taunting in Game 4 of the PBA Philippine Cup semifinal series between San Miguel and Phoenix.

He could have end up with a bigger penalty if the veteran big man wasn't smart enough to abort challenging the league's new rules on dunks.

Santos admitted being tempted to do his signature 'Spiderman' dunk the last time the two teams played at the Astrodome, but decided not to push through at the last minute as he held on to the rim.

"Muntik na. Muntik ko ng itaas yung paa ko. Napigilan ko lang," said the former league MVP of the move he popularized in which both his foot are firmly planted on the board while he hangs on to the rim.

"Dapat itutuloy ko na, e."

For safety reasons, the league has banned the dunk starting this season, saying a corresponding fine awaits Santos should he ever do it during a regular game.

The San Miguel forward did manage to display it one time without the benefit of a fineduring the last All-Star Game in Calasiao, Pangasinan.
But Santos said it was not more about the fine that prompted him to change his mind in a split second.

He was actually thinking about the welfare of the Beermen, who were engaged in a nip-and-tuck affair with the Fuel Masters when he thought about the move during the second quarter[...]
