“I loved everything about ‘Between Maybes’.”
This was the statement of Julia Barretto in her latest vlog entry where she openly talked about her movie with Gerald Anderson and why it’s one of her favorite acting projects to date.
Talking about the Jason Paul Laxamana film, the actress said she fell in love with how “natural” the entire feel of the movie was and that “no hysterics, nothing big” was required, only true emotions.
“I like that we were speaking through our eyes more than our mouths,” she added, referring to her and Gerald’s characters, Hazel and Louie.
She also emphasized the many similarities between herself as Julia and the character she portrayed in the film.
“It’s funny. Hazel is also an actress and she’s also from the same industry that Julia is in. There was a point in her life, in her career, where she was so misunderstood that she became such an angry person. She wasn’t the person that she was anymore, or the person that she really wanted to be,” she said.
“And it’s so easy to hate on her. It’s so easy to hate on something that you’re seeing just by the facade, or whatever that that person is just allowing for you to see. What I like is that there was a backstory… kung bakit siya naging ganoon… kung bakit ‘yun ‘yung personality na pinapakita niya… Because there’s pain, there’s betrayal in the past, there’s hurt. That’s why she became the actress or the person or the star that she is. But, deep down inside, she has a good heart. She’s a good person,” she added.
According to Julia, the conflicts Hazel experienced in the film is exactly what she herself as Julia was going through while filming Between Maybes.
“I love Hazel kasi when I was doing that film, that’s what Julia was going through. She was so misunderstood where she was in. She was also very lost. Hazel was very lost. Hazel in the film, and Julia as an actress doing the film, they both found themselves at the same time. So I’ll never forget that film,” she said.
This is the first time Julia openly talked about Between Maybes after being involved in the controversial breakup of Gerald and his girlfriend of three years, Bea Alonzo.
Meanwhile, the episode also featured Julia’s stronger relationship with her family, her thoughts on the tough world of showbiz, and how everything that has happened to her in the past made her who she is today.
