Former Manila Times managing editor Felipe Salvosa II was fired for unethical behavior because he maligned his boss online over a story on a supposed plot to oust President Rodrigo Duterte.
This was the claim made Friday (April 26) by Manila Times chairman emeritus Dante Ang, whom Salvosa criticized in a tweet following the publication of the article on the so-called “Oust Duterte” matrix.
It was Ang who wrote the story based on information which supposedly came from the Office of the President.
“He was fired for an unethical behavior,” Ang said of Salvosa in an interview with GMA News Online.
Ang said he summoned Salvosa to a meeting on Tuesday (April 23) after he read the former editor’s tweet criticizing the publication of the story on the alleged plan to oust Duterte.
The Manila Times’ top honcho said he told Salvosa that he should have raised his qualms about the story before its publication.
“Bakit ka naman nagtwe-tweet na nakasasama sa sa owner tsaka sa Manila Times,” Ang recalled telling Salvosa.
“Ito ba ethical sa isang journalist, for that matter, na nagtratrabaho ka sa kompanya, behind my back binabanatan mo ko. Mag-resign ka muna,” he added.
Ang maintained that he did not receive any payment to write the story, and that he tried to get the side of the journalists and lawyers allegedly involved in the plan to oust Duterte.
