BLACKWATER interim coach Aris Dimaunahan was happy to see Bobby Ray Parks raise the competitive fire among the players in the rookie's first practice with the PBA ballclub on Monday.
"Nakita namin yung mga players na when Ray went inside the gym, hindi sila magpapatalo. When he entered, everyone was grabbing a ball and shooting their shots. It was a healthy competition within the team," he observed.
But Dimaunahan hopes that it won't be just a one-off, especially with the Elite embarking on a new era starting in the 2019 PBA Commissioner's Cup.
Changes were instituted during the offseason, from Blackwater letting go of head coach Bong Ramos to a number of organizational shifts which included Pat Aquino being appointed as the new team manager.
"Everything is new," said Dimaunahan. "We'll try to also change up the outlook of our practices. We want to practice lively at masaya lahat, na yung atmosphere maganda ang competition for them para mabuo yung team namin.
"Gusto namin, as much as possible, na maging mas masaya ang practices namin, na highly-competitive and short na high-intensity."
Dimaunahan feels Parks is a perfect fit for Blackwater's change in mentality, more so after the second overall pick in the 2018 PBA Rookie Draft showed up for practice one hour before the 9 a.m. call time.
"He works hard. He was here early, taking some shots here and there," he said of the two-time ABL Local MVP.
"It's a good sign that he was here early kasi it's a sign of his commitment sa team namin and for himself also. He's also excited also dahil binreakdown namin sa kanya yung offense namin para maka-catch up siya sa opensa. Alam namin na malaki yung mabibigay sa amin ni Ray in our quest next conference."
