What would you do in Oplan Exodus? Duterte hits PNoy for ‘stupid question’ after Mamasapano bloodbath

President Rodrigo Duterte believes his predecessor, former President Benigno Aquino III asked a “very, very stupid question” after the botched police operation in Mamasapano, Maguindanao in 2015 that led to the deaths of 44 Special Action Force troopers.

In a speech in Batangas City on April 17, Duterte revealed that he walked out of the meeting called by Aquino after the failed “Oplan Exodus” because the then-President asked the local officials present what they would do had they been in charge of the situation.

“Alam mo ang tanong ni Presidente Aquino sa general na isa? Sabi niya, ‘General,’ sinabi niya ‘yung pangalan, ‘… if you were there in charge, what will you do?'” Duterte recalled during PDP-Laban’s sortie.

“Nung narinig ko sabi ko, ‘Mr. President, I have a flight to catch.’ Pero wala, sabi ko lilipad ako. Wala namang eroplano, gabi na eh. Tumindig ako because that was a very, very stupid question. Nangyari na, patay na, bakit magtanong ka pa p***** i** sa general, kung ikaw ang nandoon anong gawin mo?” he added.

Duterte said Aquino’s question showed “hypothetical idiocy” because 44 SAF officers already died in the operation.

SAF commandos conducted a covert operation at a village in Mamasapano in January 2015 to neutralize Malaysian bandit Zulkifli Bin Hir alias Marwan and Filipino bomb-maker Abdul Basit Usman.

The police killed Marwan but were caught in an armed encounter with members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front, Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters and other groups while they were leaving the village.

Duterte has slammed then-Interior Secretary Mar Roxas for “wasting” the slain SAF troopers’ lives for nothing even though former administration officials had said he was clueless about the operation.
