Despite having seasoned journalists in its ranks, President Rodrigo Duterte believes the Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism (PCIJ) doesn’t use its brains in writing.
Duterte lashed out once again at PCIJ for questioning his and his family’s wealth as he threatened to reveal the organization’s financiers soon.
In a speech in Batangas on April 17, Duterte slammed PCIJ for supposedly ignoring the questionable procurement of China-made trains under the Aquino administration and instead training its sights on his and his family’s net worth.
“Nagbili sila ng mga coach nandiyan pa sa garahe hindi pa nagagamit. Itong Philippine institute of stupid journalism, wala lang mang tanong kung ano ang nangyari sa mga propriedad,” he said during PDP-Laban’s campaign sortie.
“Ang akin tuloy ‘yung kinukwestiyon ‘yung law office ko. Bakit wala raw akong Securities and Exchange Commission? ‘Yung amin naman ang atake nila ‘yung law office ko. Wala kayong pakialam diyan. ‘Wag kayong makialam ng law office,” Duterte added.
PCIJ recently published a series of reports questioning the rise in the wealth of Duterte and his family in recent years. The organization said there were also inconsistencies in the declaration of their business interests in the Statements of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth of the President and his children who are in government, namely, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte and former Davao City vice mayor Paolo Duterte.
Duterte insisted that he grew his wealth from practicing law and from the inheritance he got from his late father, Vicente, who served as mayor of Davao.
“Sabi nila, ‘Bakit si Duterte nagkaroon ng…?’ P**** i**. Ang tatay ko, sa kayod niya naging governor ng Davao. Governor ka ba naman. Ang sweldo mo mas laki laki, hindi ka maka-negosyo? My father was governor for — when there was only one Davao,” he said.
Duterte warned that he will soon reveal who PCIJ’s financiers are. He said the information he has came from foreign intelligence agencies.
“Yang Philippine Investigative, ilabas ko. May ilabas ako. Maybe this week. Puro bayad ‘yan. Anak ng p*** puro pera-pera ‘yan sila. Maniwala kayo. I’ll show you how,” the President said.
