President Rodrigo Duterte skipped the first ever Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) in Manila today due to health reasons.
“He is not feeling well because of his punishing schedule plus his campaign sorties,” Duterte’s spokesman Salvador Panelo told reporters.
The Chief Executive was supposed to deliver a keynote speech on the first day of the conference held at at the Shangri -La Hotel in Bonifacio Global City.
Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea spoke on behalf of the President.
The BFA is currently being chaired by former United Nations Secretary Ban Ki Moon of South Korea, with House Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo sitting as board member.
The forum is named after Boao town in China’s Hainan province. It has been long compared to the World Economic Forum’s annual meeting in Davos, Switzerland.
Aside from Macapagal-Arroyo, other speakers at the Boao economic forum are former Thai Deputy Prime Minister Surakiart Sathirathai, BFA Vice Chairman Zhou Xiaochuan, and Secretary General Li Baodong among others.
