Duterte issues order creating Philippine Organizing Committee for Expo 2020 Dubai

President Rodrigo Duterte has issued Administrative Order 17, constituting the Philippine Organizing Committee (POC) for the Expo 2020 Dubai.

Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, by the authority of the President, signed the Order on April 24.

“There is a need to facilitate the preparation of the Philippines in the Expo 2020 Dubai through inter-agency collaboration and coordination,” said Duterte.

“The participation of the Philippines provides an excellent opportunity to further enhance the country’s presence in a global scale, and promote the country’s commercial and public interests in the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia region,” he added.

Under Administrative Order 17, the POC will be chaired by the Secretary of the Department of Trade and Industry and the Secretary of the Department of Tourism as Vice Chairperson.

Its members shall include the Secretary of the Departments of Foreign Affairs, Budget and Management, Labor and Employment; Science and Technology, and Information and Communications Technology.

The Committee is directed to formulate and implement a work plan, act as coordinating body between the private sector and other government entities; ensure that the benefits of the Philippine participation are maximized through a concerted and cost-effective national approach; employ and utilize sustainable architectural design; ensure the safety and protection of government properties, exhibit materials and equipment; accept or receive sponsorship and gratuitous title of funds, materials and devices essential for planning, implementing and managing the country’s participation in the Expo; and undertake marketing and promotional activities among others.

The Expo 2020, with the theme, “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future” will be held in Jebel Ali, Dubai, United Arab Emirates from October 20, 2020 to April 10, 2021.
